On Saturday, the 29th of August 2020, the Junior Parliamentarians of Cameroon for the United Nations took an Oath of Service at the Yaoundé
Congres Center. There were more than 200 in number. These young Cameroon come from all the 10 regions of Cameroon, is made up of
Diplomats, Deputies, Ambassadors and Junior Senators. The main objective of the association is to popularize and promote the
implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
On the area of gender equality, it is very important highlighting here that according to the Executive Bureau 2020-2021, there 102 female
Junior Parliamentarians out of a total of 217. In detail, there are 26 female Junior Senators out of 63, 92 female parliamentarians out of
44, 05 Diplomats out 05, 15 Ambassadors out 45 and 12 Miss United Nations who are all female.
During this oath taking ceremony, the representative of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, Mrs KENDEMEH Vivian Joy, Sub
Director for the Promotion of Gender, made an elaborate presentations of the Sustainable Development Goal number 5 which is on Gender
Equality SDG 5. The objective of the presentation was to increase the understanding of the Junior parliamentarians on the SDG 5 and the
structures of inequality and the relative position of men and women in the society, raise their awareness of gender issues and lastly show
the link between gender equality and women’s empowerment.
